To benefit the Team CMMD Karen Baker Scholarship Fund

General Registration opens January 1, 2017 and will continue through January 31, 2017.

The Scholarship Movement is a yearlong event that challenges individuals, or teams of individuals to cover 2,017 miles during the year 2017. The miles logged can be from running, walking, biking*, swimming**, hiking, and other exercise will be counted too, such as Zumba, HIIT training, weights… if you’re sweating, it counts! So, grab your friends and family and JOIN THE MOVEMENT.

About the Karen Baker Scholarship:

Team CMMD Foundation’s mission is support those fighting cancer and their families. It is through this mission that we have developed the Karen Baker Scholarship Fund. Karen Baker was a full-time working mother of two and bravely fought liposarcoma, a rare form of soft-tissue cancer. With the support of her family, Karen showed exceptional courage through over eight years of treatments to fight her cancer. In honor of her bravery, we offer local high school students the opportunity to apply for this special college scholarship, honoring their own bravery in the face of a personal or family member’s cancer battle. How will miles be counted?

What makes this challenge unique to Team CMMD is that we want to count all kinds of movement. To account for different types of activities, the following ratios will be used:

Running, Walking, Hiking 1:1

Biking*– 4:1 (each 4 miles biked will be recorded as 1 mile towards the challenge)

Swimming**–1:4 (each mile swam will be recorded as 4 miles towards the challenge)

“Other” activities —  1 hour: 3 (Example 1 hour of Zumba will be recorded as 3 miles)

Record your movement all month through responding to your daily emails from Racery.com or by downloading the Racery app on your phone!

Team Guidelines:

Logging 2,017 miles breaks down to 168 miles per month on average. The key to making a good team is finding the right mix so that it’s not too overwhelming, but that it is still challenging. Each team is limited to 5 runners.

How you choose to complete the challenge is up to your team. Want to be purists and only record running miles? Go for it. Want to include movement from every category? Have a go. Just like the Team CMMD 5K, this challenge is PERSONAL. Decide what works best for your teammates and GET MOVING!

We encourage families to join as a team – even the smallest children can get out and walk or ride their bikes to contribute! What better way to get the whole family moving?
