DOWNINGTOWN  A Chester County organization donated more than four tons of food to a local food pantry last week.

The Team CMMD Foundation, which helps area families battling cancer, brought a total of 8,215 pounds of food to Lord’s Pantry in Downingtown.

Five local businesses competed to gather the most food. When the totals were weighed in Thursday, the participants and the Lord’s Pantry staff were thrilled, said Team CMMD spokeswoman Kathrin Homnack.

“We ourselves were floored, and they were beside themselves,” she said.

The participating businesses were In Motion Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Radley Run Country Club; Exton Vet Clinic; Christine Meyer, M.D.; and Love 2 Be Fit Studio. Meyer organized the event.

Since Meyer founded the group in 2013, it has attracted more than 1,000 members. The nonprofit provides assistance to families dealing with cancer, holds events to raise money for its cause, and performs charity work in the community.

As about 100 volunteers and kids brought food into the pantry Thursday, patrons were leaving with full shopping carts. “It was just such a beautiful thing to see,” Homnack said.
