THE HOPE GARDENAT DOWNINGTOWN’S KERR PARK
Each year, Team CMMD celebrates National Cancer Survivors’ Day® in early June. In 2016, volunteers created a special garden planting for the annual celebration, located at Downingtown’s Kerr Park Gazebo in the center of our community. The 2022 National Cancer Survivors’ Day will celebrated on June 5th, 2022 Hope you can join us!
Built in collaboration with the Downingtown Parks & Recreation Commission, Team CMMD volunteers, and landscape planning consultant John Mikowychok, the garden is home to bushes and groundcovers with purple flowers — the awareness color of all cancers — and plants that have butterfly-attracting blossoms. It features a central honorary plaque stating Team CMMD’s promise to cancer fighters. The garden serves as a quiet place of reflection, and beautifies a public gazebo used for community events and concerts. John Mikowychok and his daughter Laura maintain the garden as volunteers.
The spot continues to be a place of reflection and remembrance for the team. Visitors are welcome any time that Kerr Park is open; click here to map the location and pay a visit to the garden.
