ASTRAZENECA & AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
HOPE LODGE DINNERS
For many cancer fighters, treatment at a Philadelphia medical center provides the greatest hope, but requires that they be far from home, adding the additional burden of travel and lodging expenses. That is why the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge of the American Cancer Society offers lodging at no cost for cancer patients being treated in the Philadelphia area. Getting emotional and social support from other survivors can be as important as getting the proper medical care. At the Hope Lodge, patients live with other people going through similar experiences, and are supported by caring staff and volunteers (including us).
WHAT TEAM CMMD DOES
Volunteers from our team prepare and provide up to 6 dinners per year as well as a caring, fun memorable evening (with special touches) for the patients at the lodge. We do this by breaking into 3 teams; a team to prep the day before, a team to go to the Hope Lodge and cook and serve dinner, and a team of volunteers to donate the food we will need to feed up to 80 residents. During these dinners our team members spend time talking with patients and their families and find out what we can do to help more. Team members have formed lasting, meaningful relationships with patients who are in need of compassion and kindness. Most of all, our team members leave feeling like they have made a real, meaningful difference in our community, which is what Team CMMD is all about.
Sign-ups for volunteers will be done via SignUp Genius and will be posted to our closed-member Facebook group here.
WHAT WE DO
Volunteers feed up to 40 residents undergoing cancer treatment with a home-cooked meal and special touches to make the evening an inspiring event.
WHO IT HELPS
The meal helps patients undergoing cancer treatment in Philadelphia medical centers; the experience helps our teammates connect and make a difference.
